The Tier 1 Investor Visa category is for individuals who are seeking to invest in the UK.

 

This category is for high-net-worth individuals making a substantial financial investment in the UK.

 

Under this route you will not need to show that you have any English language ability because, while you are allowed to work in the UK if you wish to, you should not need to work.

 

You must be at least 18 years old to use this route, and the assets and investment you are claiming points for must be wholly under your control.

 

1. What is a Tier 1 Investor Visa Application?

The Tier 1 Investor Visa Application is for high net worth individuals who wish to enter the UK and invest their funds.

 

The amounts which you invest indicates how quickly you can apply for indefinite leave to remain in the UK:

• apply to settle after 2 years if you invest £10 million

• apply to settle after 3 years if you invest £5 million

• apply to settle after 5 years if you invest £2 million

 

This visa also allows you work in the UK and have your family join you from abroad.

 

The amount of investments must be made in correct methods, and you will need to provide evidence of the investment funds to the Home Office.

 

There are various requirements that you will need to meet in order to satisfy the Home Office that you are a genuine investor and should continue to be allowed to remain in the UK under this route. 2. Benefits of a Tier 1 Investor Visa?

 

If you are looking to enter the UK as a Tier 1 Investor the benefits of this visa far outweigh the restrictions.

 

You can enter the UK and invest your funds in the UK in qualifying investments and whilst the funds are invested you can reside, work and spend time outside of the UK until you reach settlement stage.

 

You will be given a three-year visa in the start which you can then extend if you want to continue to live in the UK

 

3. What are the requirements for a Tier 1 Investor Visa Application?

 

To apply for a visa under this category you must have at least £2,000,000 investments funds to apply for the visa.

 

You must be over the age of 18 and be able to prove that the money belongs to either you or your husband, wife, unmarried or same-sex partner. You should also show that you have a UK regulated bank account to use for your funds.

 

One of the key requirements is that the funds must already be held in one or more regulated financial institute and be disposable (free to spend) in the UK, the money can be both overseas or in the UK when you apply for the first time.

 

You can get a decision within 5 working days if you wish to opt for the priority service or it can take around 8 weeks for a decision otherwise.

As part of your application for an extension after you have entered the UK you will need to show evidence that you have made investments within 3 months of your visa start date, for this you will provide a series of investment portfolio reported produced by a UK regulated financial institution that show:

• you invested at least £750,000 in UK government bonds or UK business within 3 months of your investor start date (if you first got your visa under the Immigration Rules in place before 6 November 2014)

• you invested all £2 million (if you first got your visa under the Immigration Rules in place on or after 6 November 2014)

• this level of investment has been maintained for the length of your visa
